Ski touring is a form of backcountry skiing where both going uphill and downhill are possible without needing to remove skis. While climbing the heels are free from the skies and the back of the ski is covered with a "skin" to facilitate climbing.
The ascent and descent are done on done off-piste and outside of ski resorts, on the wild mountains avoiding agglomeration and looking for serenity and untouched/less-touched nature. Most time it is spent ascending. The team requires the knowledge to assess and test snow conditions to minimize the risk of avalanches.
